Metal Building Anatomy Guide | Boss Buildings
Understand every component of a metal building — frames, trusses, panels, anchors, bracing, and accessories.
Structural Components
Frame & Trusses
The steel frame is the skeleton of your building. Trusses span the width and support the roof panels. Available in 14-gauge and 12-gauge steel.
Legs & Columns
Vertical supports that hold up the frame. Standard heights range from 6' to 20'. Legs are anchored to the ground, concrete, or asphalt.
Roof Panels
Available in 29-gauge or 26-gauge steel. Three roof styles: Regular (rounded), A-Frame (boxed eave), and Vertical (standing seam).
Wall Panels
Horizontal or vertical panels that enclose the sides of the building. Same gauge options as roof panels.
Gable Ends
The triangular portion at each end of the building. Can be open, partially enclosed, or fully enclosed.
Bracing & Knee Braces
Diagonal supports that add rigidity and wind resistance to the frame. Critical for meeting wind load certifications.
Anchoring System
Concrete anchors, mobile home anchors, or rebar anchors secure the building to the ground. Proper anchoring is essential for warranty coverage.
Trim & J-Channel
Finishing pieces that seal edges, corners, and transitions between panels. Protects against water infiltration.
