How Wide is A 2-Car Carport?

When you purchase a custom metal carport, you’ll have plenty of size options available. Most two-car carports are designed to house two small to medium-sized vehicles comfortably. A general rule of thumb for this is that you’ll need 18 to 20 feet of width for compact cars. This provides enough room to open vehicle doors and move around.

Larger vehicles, such as trucks or SUVs, may need more room. For these vehicles, choose a structure at least 24 feet wide.

In addition to planning for your vehicle’s size, building your carport a few feet larger than you initially arranged will also give you more space.

Customization Options for Two Car Carports

When you purchase a double car carport from Boss Buildings, you’ll have a wide range of customization options that give you the power to make your structure fit your precise needs. You’ll be able to change or adjust your:

    1. Building Size : No matter what sized building you need, we’ve got you covered. With a wide array of carport dimensions, you’ll surely find a structure that’s the perfect fit for you and your family.
      • Roof Styles : When you purchase a steel carport, you’ll have the ability to pick a roofing style that works for you. These include:
      • Regular Roofs : Regular roofs are our most affordable option, with rounded corners and horizontal paneling. This roofing type works well in most mild climates that have minimal wind and rainfall totals.
      • A-Frame Roofs : An A-frame roof is a fantastic mid-level option that features overhanging awnings, a sharp roof peak, and horizontal panels. If you live in a region with high winds but low rainfall totals, an A-frame might be right for you!
    2. Vertical Roofs : This roofing type is our premium option, with overhanging awnings combined with vertical paneling. It’s a great choice for keeping debris off your roof and is specially built to handle high winds and heavy rainfall.
    3. Color : Say goodbye to dull, lifeless metal buildings! Now, you can choose the color for almost every element of your carport or metal building. You’ll have free reign to make a structure truly yours, from the roofing to the trim and everything in between.
    4. Anchor Systems : While not necessarily a custom feature, the anchor system for your structure will depend heavily on its foundation. For dirt foundations, auger-like anchors are screwed into the soil. For asphalt, spiked rods keep your building in place. And for concrete foundations, we’ll use specialized bolts drilled directly into the concrete.
    5. 14- & 12-Gauge Framing : Most residential structures use 14-gauge framing as the industry standard. However, if your building is regularly facing off against high winds and snow, you may want to reinforce it with thicker 12-gauge steel.
    6. 29- & 26-Gauge Roofing : Much like the framing of your structure, you’ll also be able to choose the thickness of your roofing panels. Most buildings come standard with 29-gauge paneling, but for more heavy-duty buildings, upgrading to the thicker 26-gauge roofing panels might be a sound choice.
    7. Certifications : Certification is a system where a structure is tested to ensure that it can hold up against a particular region’s wind, snow, and seismic loads. In most localities, structures will be required to have certification to receive a building permit. Additionally, if you want your facility to be included in a future sale appraisal, it must be certified.

Certified Vs. Non-Certified Carports: What’s The Deal?

When shopping for a carport or metal building, you’ll hear the term β€˜certification’ bandied about. It’s an important aspect of the process that proves the structure you’re purchasing is up to the job. Sure, you can save money by buying a non-certified carport, but you may end up with a structure that’s not up to snuff when Mother Nature comes calling.

Most local building authorities require a steel structure to be certified before issuing a building permit. So, if you plan to use your carport as a permanent fixture of your property, you’ll want to make sure it’s certified.

    DIY Double Car Carport Kits

We offer a comprehensive lineup of two-car metal carport kits. These kits come with all the components found in a traditional metal carport, except you have the option to handle the installation by yourself or you can hire contractors to perform the installation.

But why waste your time and money on third-party help when we include delivery and installation with every structure with no extra cost? All you’ll need to do is watch our professional install crews bring your structure to life.
